FAQ QUESTIONS

What does freestanding fridge mean?

A freestanding fridge is just what it sounds like: A refrigerator that stands on its own and just slides into place next to some cabinets or against a wall. It's probably what you think of first when you think of a fridge, but it's not your only option — and it might not be the best option for you.

Can you use a freestanding fridge as a built in?

As the name implies, these refrigerators are not meant to be integrated and therefore, improper installation can impact their longevity, warranty, and become a potential hazard, damaging the unit and/or the surrounding area.

What is the difference between a built-in refrigerator and a freestanding refrigerator?

Built-in fridges are generally taller than freestanding models, although they are limited to cabinet depth (24”) so they can be installed seamlessly flush with kitchen cabinetry. They come in many different sizes and can be as wide as 48”.

How deep is a freestanding fridge?

Freestanding fridges can vary in size. They tend to have a width of around 60cm and a depth up to 65cm, although some retro style models can be a lot bigger than this.

Can I put a freestanding fridge under a counter?

One of the added benefits of a freestanding refrigerator, is that it can stand alone or on top of a countertop, all you need is an electrical outlet and you're good to go. If you choose to install a freestanding unit under your counter, just know that there is a safety risk associated with doing so.

What is the most important part of a fridge?

The compressor is one of the most important parts. It moves the refrigerant throughout the entire machine, creating that cooling effect we want for our food. A variety of issues can arise if the compressor gets too dirty or dusty, or if it breaks.

Can you integrate a standard fridge?

Regular Freestanding. Although these refrigerators aren't flush with surrounding countertops, trim added to the front can integrate them into the cabinetry. Pro: Regular freestanding refrigerators cost less than built-ins and cabinet-depth refrigerators, and they offer the most usable storage space.
